Car Rental
Rental car companies that are located at the airport are Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz and National. Information desks for all of these companies can be found in the Main Overseas terminal at baggage claims H, G and E, and near baggage claim at the Interisland Terminal. Rental car return is in parking lot F in front of the main terminal.
Public/Ground Transfer
Public transportation in Honolulu consists of the city bus and it stops at the airport every 30 minutes. Bus stops are on the 2nd level in front of the terminal buildings. Route 19 and Route 20 are the two lines that run into downtown Honolulu and end at Waikiki. Please note that any baggage must be able to fit on your lap or under the seat with a size limit of 18"x24"x12". Though very cheap at $2, it is not very convenient for those with luggage.
Airport Shuttles
Airport shuttles are a very convenient and affordable option to get you to your destination. If you're going to a hotel in the Waikiki area, the Airport Waikiki Express runs every 20-25 minutes and costs $9 each way. There is also a plethora of shuttle services listed in the "Ground Transportation" section of HNL's website. These shuttles are often arranged in advance and charge fixed rates.
Limousine Services
If you're looking for a more luxurious ride to and from the airport, there are many limousine or executive car services. As with any other limousine service, you'll pay a fixed rate, be greeted at the airport by your driver and taken directly to wherever you wish to go. A list of companies can also be found in the "Ground Transportation" section of HNL's website.
Taxi Services
Taxi dispatchers can be found on the center median outside of the baggage claim areas of each of the terminals. These dispatchers, wearing green shirts, can accommodate your taxi needs. Though convenient, a taxi ride to Waikiki costs around $35-$40, so you may find more affordable rates through the Waikiki Express or one of the shuttle services.
