Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle International Airport sits approximately fourteen miles north of Paris. The airport is the largest in Paris and the second most in traffic in all of Europe. With three terminals, passengers will find an excellent mix of amenities, restaurants, and shops. Navigating the airport can be difficult however. Passengers should invest in a map before leaving on their travels because signage in the airport is vague and many hallways are dimly lit making it even more difficult to reach the proper terminal. Additionally, security checkpoints are often understaffed creating long waits. Passengers should allow for extra time for layovers when catching connecting flights to avoid missing their plane.

Terminal 2 is the largest of the terminals. Terminal 2 consists of six halls, A, B, C, D, E, and F that all serve Air France flights and a few other international carriers. At the present time, Terminal 2E is closed for repairs following a roof collapse that injured a number of travelers and killed four. This terminal is due to reopen in 2008. In the meantime, satellite lounges were constructed to handle the flow of passengers that normally would use Terminal 2E.

One feature that makes Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport stands out is the train system that links airport passengers with Paris and other nearby attractions including the European Disney World and Belgium. Passengers will find it is easy to reach much of France and Belgium using trains that leave the airport regularly. Smoking has been banned in public spaces effective in 2007, so passengers will need to find the handful of designated smoking areas that are available.

Directions

CDG Airport is accessible via either the A1 (Porte de la Chapelle) or the A3 (Porte de Bagnolet). Those taking the A3 will need to follow signs to join the A1. From here, airport signs and marked exits should be clear.

Terminal 1

The circular shape of Terminal 1 should make it easy for passengers to find their flights, but some struggle with the French signs. It can be helpful to have a French/English dictionary on hand. Terminal 1 is in the northern area of the airport's grounds. The multi-level Terminal 1 is currently undergoing renovations that should be complete in 2008. Currently, the terminal serves 223rd Flight Unit State Airlines, Adria Airways, Aer Lingus, Aero Business Charter, Aerolineas Argentinas, Africa Airways, Aigle Azur, Air Baltic, Air Bor, Air China, Air Dolomiti, Air Evex, Air France, Air Gabon, Air Malta, Air Moldova, Air New Zealand, Air Plus Comet, Air Vallee Spa, Air Zimbabwe, Airlec, All Nippon, Alpi Eagles Spa, Ambassade Congo, Ambassade Croatie, Ambassade Tadjikistan, Arkia Israeli Airlines, Armavia, Armenian International Airways, Bemoair Praha, SMI, British Airways, Challenge Air, China Airlines, Corsair, Cubana de Aviacion, Cyprus Airways, Daallo Airlines, Danish Air, Denim Air, Easyjet, Egypt Air, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Eurojet Italia, Eva Airways, Excellent Air, Falcon Air, Garuda Indonesia Airways, Ghana Airways, Gulf Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Hellas Jet, Iberworld, Icelandair, Interjet, Israir Airlines, Jersey European Airways, Kabo Air, KLM, Kuwait Airwyas, Lac Lignes Aeriennes Congolaises, Lan Airlines, Lauda Air, Linhas Aereas de Mozambique, Lithuanian Airlines, London Executive Aviation, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Mexicana, Michelin Air Services, Monacair, North Flying, Olympic Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Privitair, Pulkovo Aviation, Qatar Airways, Rabbitair, Royal Air Marco, Royal Jordanian, SAS, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Scotairways, Singapore Airlines, Skyways, SN Brussels Airlines, South African Airways, Sri Lankan Airlines, Star Airlines, Sudan Airways, Tap Portugal, Thai Airways, Thomsonfly, United Airlines, Ural Airlines, US Airways, Uzbekistan Airways, Varig, Virgin Atlantic, Yemen Airways, and Zimex Aviation Limited. There are many stores and boutiques within Terminal 1 both before and after the security checkpoints. This is the busiest terminal in the airport, so passengers will find that the security checkpoints are usually crowded and require extra time to clear.

Terminal 2/Hall A

Terminal 2 is formed by long parallel hallways that are each named with a letter of the alphabet. The train station is also found in this section linking Halls A,B,C, and D with Halls E and F. Located in the southern area of the airport grounds, Terminal 2 tends to be easier to navigate. Hall A, located all the way to the bottom left, serves Air Austral, Air Canada, Air France, Air India, Air Madagascar, Air Tahiti Nui, American Airlines, Cameroun Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Continental Airlines, El Al, Qantas Airways, Star Airlines, Sun D'or International Airlines, Taag Angola Airlines, and Tam Linhas Aereas. The Halls branch from the long main hallways, to enter Hall C one must pass through customs and then access the gates and lounges. Aerovias de Mexico, Air France, Air Seychelles, China Eastern Airlines, Delta Air, IR Mauritius, Korean Air Lines, and Vietnam Airlines are all served by Hall C. Hall C holds gates C80 to C91.

Terminal 2/Hall D

Hall D serves Air Europa, Air France, Air Nostrum, Austrian Airlines, Brit Air, Eurofly Spa, Finnair, Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana, Luxair, Maersk Air Danemark, Portugalia, Styrian Spirit, and Tyrolean Airways. Hall D houses gates D53 to D76. Hall D is located across from Hall C on the northern side of Terminal C.

Terminal 2/Hall E

While the roof repairs are completed, little traffic is heading out of Hall E. Repairs are expected to be finalized later this year (2007). The Terminal does currently serve a limited number of flights for Air France, China Southern Airlines, and Northwest Airlines. On the right side of Terminal 2, Hall E is to the south. Only half of this building is currently open to travelers and there is a lack of restaurants and stores until the repairs are complete. Gates E22, E24/26, E30, E32/34, E50, E54/56, and E66 are found in this area of the terminal. Hall E contains three floors for arrivals, departures, and baggage.

Hall E and Hall F are connected by a wide hallway (La Galerie) that houses a number of stores. Hall F is three stories with separate floors for arrivals, departures, and baggage.
