San Jose International Airport - SJC Transportation

Located only two miles from downtown San Jose, getting to and from SJC is usually quick and painless. Whether you drive yourself, hire a driver, or take public transportation, getting around is a snap. Most trips into San Jose take less than about 10-15 minutes.

Many area hotels offer free shuttles to and from the airport. Check with your hotel to make reservations.

Car Rental

A number of rental car companies operate out of SJC. Each company operates its own free shuttle service between the terminals and the rental car center between 4 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. For after-hours service, call 408-277-3661.

Public/Ground Transfer

Valley Transportation Authority (VTA: 408-321-2300; www.vta.org) has several low-cost transportation options to help travelers get to and from the airport. Regular fares are $1.75 for adults and $1.50 for children (express and day passes also are available).

The VTA Airport Flyer (Route 10) bus makes frequent stops between the Metro Light Rail Station, the Santa Clara Caltrain Station and the Airport Terminals. Buses depart from each designated stopping point approximately every 10-15 minutes from 5 a.m. to midnight.

Caltrain and BART also offer routes that can get travelers to and from the airport. Trips may include a transfer, bus or train, and may involve some walking between stops. Transportation time into downtown San Jose runs about 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic.

Airport Shuttles

There are a number of shuttle services which provide door-to-door service. Rates will vary depending on pick-up and drop-off points as well as the provider, but range between about $16-$60 per passenger within Santa Clara County. If you're going to San Francisco or Oakland from SJC, rates are between about $60-$80. Limousine Services

There are dozens of limo services that provide transportation to and from SJC to points within Santa Clara County, San Francisco, Oakland, and other destinations. The airport's website provides helpful information at Limousine Services. Rates vary, of course, depending on your destination, number of passengers, and the limo company you choose. Though, on average, limo rides to Santa Clara County destinations from SJC average about $50 per person. To San Francisco, rates run about $95 from SJC, and to Oakland rates are about $100.

Taxi Services

There are a number of cab companies operating at SJC. Info can be found at Taxi Services. Taxis average a $2 pull or flag fee, plus 25 cents for every one-tenth of a mile thereafter. There's also a $1.50 airport fee. Fares into downtown San Jose run about $10-$15. Taxis can be found outside Terminals A and C; you also can make reservations ahead by contacting the cab companies directly.
