Car Rental
While Enterprise and Thrifty have locations a short drive from the airport, Avis, Budget, Hertz, and National have locations right near the short term parking lot near the terminal. Driving in Santa Barbara isn't impossible providing tourists are ready for some traffic jams during rush hour. With a map in hand, most drivers will enjoy getting to explore the area at their leisure.
Public/Ground Transfer
Line 11 of the Metropolitan Transit travels to Santa Barbara Airport every half hour. The bus fare is $1.25 per adult or child over 45 inches, 60ยข for seniors and handicapped passengers, and children under 45 inches are free. Transfers are also free. Buses are equipped with wheelchair ramps, so handicapped passengers need not worry. Most bus stops are also handicapped accessible. Bus drivers do require exact change, so passengers should be certain they have the correct amount of money before boarding.
Airport Shuttles
Central Coast Shuttle, Road Runner, and Super Ride are all authorized by the airport to provide shuttle service for passengers. Central Coast Shuffle handles airport transfers between the airport and the area around Santa Maria. Road Runner handles transportation to Ventura County. Finally, Super Ride can transport any sized group to their final destination with no set guidelines regarding the areas they serve. The farther one travels the more expensive shuttle service becomes. Generally, rates from the airport to Santa Barbara average $80. Shuttle service allows for two bags per passenger and charges around $5 per bag in excess of these two bags. Additional passengers going to the exact same destination pay $10 each way.
Limousine Services
Road Runner also offers limousine transfers to and from the airport. This is a more expensive means of travel with prices starting at $130 per vehicle with an additional $10 per passenger charge. The benefits are many though because limousines are roomy and comfortable and usually beverages are included in the limousine rate. Those thinking about limousine service should compare area prices. Some limousine companies require hefty charges (up to $100 extra) for all weekend travel.
Taxi Services
The airport allows seven taxi companies to provide passengers with cab service. American Taxi, Blue Dolphin Cab, Crown Cab, Fly By Night Taxi, Roadways Cab, Rose Cab, and Santa Barbara Airport Taxi keep their rates as low as possible for passengers. Most cabs set a limit of four passengers per cab. It is important for passengers to ask for the pre-set fare before getting into the cab. Some companies try to charge by the percentage of a mile rather than a flat fee, and this can be very expensive. If the driver refuses a flat-fee, pick a different cab company.
