Car Rental
There are a number of car rental companies within the airport and surrounding regions. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National are within the airport while agencies like Thrifty area short drive away. Those traveling to the ski areas like Stowe, Jay Peak, Smuggler's, or Killington will want to rent a car. The ski areas are a distance from the airport and public bus service does leave Burlington and surrounding suburbs. There is no train service to the ski areas. Rental cars are the best way to reach the popular ski resorts.
Public/Ground Transfer
CCTA provides bus service from the airport to downtown Burlington, Williston, the University of Vermont, Essex Junction, and Essex Center. From the bus station in Burlington, there are additional buses that travel to Middlebury, Montpelier and Saint Albans. The local bus costs $1.25 one-way for anyone over the age of six, or a ten-ride booklet can be purchased for $10. Children under six years of age ride for free. Fares to Middlebury are $3 one-way or $30 for a 10-ride booklet. Those traveling to Montpelier and Saint Albans pay $4 one-way or $40 for a ten-ride booklet.
Airport Shuttles
Burlington International Airport does not offer shuttle bus service, but many of the area's taxi companies do have shuttle van service available if booked in advance. The shuttle vans are perfect for larger groups who need transportation to their hotel or final destination.
Limousine Services
There are a number of limousine companies within the area, and all offer airport transfers. Apollo Limousine is the area's most popular, but Ethan Allen Coachworks, Carey Limousine, Limos For Less, and Executive Transit are all available. Rates vary depending on the length of time the limousine is needed. Limousine travel is comfortable and offers the most relaxing mode of transportation, but it is far more expensive than bus or taxi travel.
Taxi Services
The airport does not limit the number of taxi services that can enter the airport grounds. Passengers are welcome to pick among the area's airport companies. Locals advise using Airport Taxi, Benway's or Yellow Cab because they have been around for a number of years and are extremely reliable. A taxi ride to downtown Burlington usually averages $15 to $20 including the tip.
