Car Rental
The easiest way to travel from the airport to surrounding areas in Fairbanks is by booking a rental car. Not only are passengers allowed to then travel at their own pace, but there is the freedom to visit more remote areas. Alamo/National, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, and Payless all have counters within the airport. Fairbanks isn't a hard city to navigate, so most will feel perfectly comfortable renting a car.
Public/Ground Transfer
MACS (Metropolitan Area Commuter System) provides bus service from downtown Fairbanks to the airport. Passengers will need to take the Yellow Line that is at the airport Monday through Friday at 7:23am, 9:36am, 11:10am, 3:28pm, 5:13pm, and 6:34pm. On Saturday, the bus reaches the airport at 11:58am, 3:12pm, and 4:48pm. Fares for this route are $1.50 for adults, Seniors, children older than five, disabled passengers, and military members pay 75ยข. Rates are all one-way.
Airport Shuttles
Those wanting to reach their destination in luxury will want to look into limousine transfers from Fairbanks International Airport. Limousine service ban be difficult to find and they tend to book quickly in peak season, but passengers who book in advance will have success. Rates for limousine transfers are much more expensive than taking the bus or hiring a taxi, but the comfort of a limousine is unbeatable.
Taxi Services
Only taxi companies holding valid permits with the airport are allowed to enter the airport grounds to pick up or drop off passengers. Currently, the following taxi companies are authorized to enter the airport: ABC Cab, Ace Cab, Alaska Cab, Eagle Cab, Executive Taxi, King Cab, Last Frontier, Midnight Sun Taxi, Moose Cab, and Yellow Cab. The airport has strict rules stating that cabs must display their rate charts on the passenger doors and always take the shortest route in terms of mileage since many cab companies charge by a fraction of a mile. Taxi owners are charged $100 per year per vehicle to be authorized by the airport, so passengers should expect to pay a small surcharge that covers a portion of that yearly fee. Because the airport is around three miles from downtown, the cab fare is generally $15 to $20 depending on the passenger's final destination. Cabs are located outside of the airport terminal doors.
