York Minster, the city's famous medieval cathedral, is near to the centre's main shopping and night life districts, which boasts a wide range of restaurants, bars, theatres and traditional English pubs, some of which date back to the 14th century! The Alcuin Lodge Guesthouse is a historic building too, although it dates back to around the turn of the last century, known as the Edwardian period. The guesthouse's public areas and bedrooms are full of period furniture, making for some charming holiday accommodation in York. The staff are friendly and welcoming too, always on hand to give you some information or advice on what to see and do in and around York. Although the guesthouse's reception is only open until 8 p.m., all residents have their own keys, enabling you to come and go as you please.
