Inn At Poplar Corner - Chincoteague Island, VA

This three-story house with wraparound veranda looks like it`s been here since Victorian times, but it was built from scratch by Tom and Jacque Derrickson, owners of the Watson House across the street. Floral wallpaper, antiques, and lace curtains add to the atmosphere. A central hallway is flanked by a parlor and a dining room, whose French doors open to the verandah, permitting guests to enjoy gourmet breakfasts outside during good weather. The room on the front of the second story has bay windows, while the one to the rear has its own private balcony. But the star here is the third story, which has a unique lounge (you have to stoop under the roof to reach a small reading area) and a bedroom with three gables and French doors leading to a huge bathroom. All rooms have window air-conditioning units, ceiling fans, and whirlpool tubs, but none has a phone or TV. Unlike its newer sibling, the Watson House actually dates back to the Victorian era, having been built before 1874.
