Taxis are the best option for first-time tourists. Most taxi rides in the central city come to JD 2 ($2.80) or less. A taxi from Queen Alia International Airport to a hotel in the center of Amman should run JD 13 to 15 ($18.30 to $21). There is no additional charge for baggage, nor is a tip expected unless the driver carries heavy baggage a considerable distance for you. Airport Express buses to downtown Amman?s Abdali Station depart from outside the Arrivals Hall every 30 minutes from 6am to 10pm; and every 2 hours from 11pm to 5am. The fare is JD 1 ($1.40) with a charge of 250 fils (35?) for each suitcase or large bag. The 35-kilometer (56-mi.) trip from the airport to central Amman takes around 45 minutes.

Yellow shared taxis, called service, ply definite routes, much like buses. Service taxis bear the numbers of their routes. Check with your hotel about the nearest service routes, and always ask at the desk about the best service routes for your day?s destinations. Drivers are usually very helpful to foreign visitors, as are fellow passengers. Standard fares in the center of Amman are generally 90 to 120 fils (about 20?), but on a few routes the fare is 160 fils.
